Just when all of Cedarville feels like crying and sleeping away the pre-break stress, Alpha Psi Omega comes to the rescue this weekend with some much needed, purely fun theatre in a production of “Fools.”

This hit comedy by Neil Simon takes place in Kulyenchikov, a Russian town where the people are cursed with stupidity and the inability to love. These confused citizens milk their cows upside-down, sprinkle dust on their books in order to “dust,” and frequently forget their own names. Leon, an attractive tutor, faces these shenanigans and more when he visits Kulyenchicov and learns that he too will be fall subject to the curse if he does not break it within 24 hours.

Produced by Cedarville’s theatre org, Alpha Psi Omega, this show is completely directed, designed and performed by students without any faculty input. Senior theatre major Keely Heyl admits that directing her first show has been a lot of fun and a lot of hard work, dominating her every thought for months—but she’s driven by the encouragement that her gifts are directed toward a good cause.

All profit from ticket sales will be going to The Hilltop Primetime Afterschool Program in the inner-city of Columbus. This program, run by Hilltop Lutheran Church, provides meals, offers tutoring and runs games for elementary kids while teaching them and their families about social skills, leadership and God’s love. “It’s been a blessing to bless other people,” says Heyl. “That’s been the driving force all along for this production.”

Come to Alford Auditorium for a hilarious night of nonsense that offers romance, some of Cedarville’s best comic actors, and Russian names that guarantee a good time all by themselves. “Fools” will run at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Get your $5 tickets in the lower SSC and at the door.
