Brads’ Breakdown: Buckeyes survive Big Ten bloodbath

By Alan Brads I hate Halloween. I’m not afraid to say it. I despise dressing up, and I’m allergic to nine out of every 10 candies, so why shouldn’t I hate it? But like it or not, Halloween is upon us, and with it, we all get a chance to face our fears. Kids fear zombies and skeletons, and I, a proud member of Generation Z, fear strangers knocking on my door. But what does the college football world fear? Well, Clemson fears the SEC, a conference many speculate the TIgers will ...

Cedarville won in four sets on Thursday night, leveling the Jackets’ G-MAC record at 5-5, while Kentucky Wesleyan dropped to 4-17 (2-8). Janae Heegaard led Cedarville with 16 kills, and Cassi Shields tacked on five aces. The win comes at a great time for Cedarville, snapping a four-game losing streak and kicking off a busy weekend in the right ...

Brads Breakdown: Midseason at-risk reports

By Alan Brads At Cedarville, the midpoint of the semester means fall break, and fall break means academic at risk reports. Here on Brads’ breakdown, the midpoint of the college football season means the same. So just like my geology professor tells my advisor I’m dangerously close to failing, I’ll issue some strern warnings. Then, as always, I’ll serve up three storylines and three games for week eight. Who’s at risk? USC – The pressure’s on. An ugly-as-could-be loss ...

Brads’ Breakdown: War on the West Coast

By Alan Brads Ohio Octobers are a whirlwind of change. Soybeans turn from green to yellow to brown in a week. Pumpkins sprout on front porches, leaves turn red, and iced coffees become pumpkin spice lattes.  With midterms right around the corner, and the school calendar brings my mind back, yet again, to football. You can’t pass a class in October, but you can easily fail one in October. Likewise, you can’t win the national championship before the College Football Playoff ...

Cedarville’s men’s soccer team fended off Trevecca’s comeback bid, winning the homecoming match 4-2. Moments later Alex Long scored a penalty just 42 seconds before Michael Catanzarite scored a third goal. The Trojans came roaring back in the second half, scoring twice to cut the deficit to ...

Brooke Ackley played yet another stellar game in goal, amassing seven saves, and her seventh clean sheet in 12 games. Brads’ Breakdown: The Big-12’s big game and bigger problem

By Alan Brads Every industry needs a star. Pop music has Taylor Swift, action movies have Tom Cruise, football has … also Taylor Swift.  Between Sanders and Taylor Swift, football viewership is up, and a whole new audience is being exposed to the charismatic cult of football.  So to any Swfities who jumped from the NFL to college football, let me be the first to welcome you to Fansville, home of all college football fans. Let me also be the the first to warn you: it gets crazy ...

Yellow Jackets fall short in tough battle, drop match 3-2

By Julia Swain As the ball hit the floor with a resounding thud, a collective groan rang through the gymnasium, with the visiting Ohio Dominican Wildcats storming the court following a tightly contested 3-2 win.  Despite this, the Cedarville Yellow Jackets walked off the court with determination as a result of the gutsy performance that was put on, falling just short of the victory.  The Yellow Jackets dropped the first set 25-14. Head coach Greg Smith found this to be one ...

Brads Breakdown: Longhorns, and Sooners and Jayhawks, oh my!

By: Alan Brads What do birthday parties and September have in common? Once they’re over the cupcakes are gone.  Technically this Saturday falls on September 30th, but the leaves are turning orange and my neighbors have pumpkin decor on their front door, so I feel justified considering this Saturday to be the 0th of October. That’s right, conference season hits its stride in week five and we get watchable games in bunches every weekend. No more powerhouses facing Midwestern ...
