The Cedarville women’s soccer team lost their first game of the season in conference play Thursday night, falling to Trevecca Nazarene University 2-0.
Despite a 7-1 shots on goal advantage in the first half, Cedarville couldn’t capitalize and went into the halftime break tied 0-0. Trevecca came out of the break strong, scoring their first goal in the 47th minute. Anna Hoffman beat Cedarville keeper Hanna Harris on a 1-on-1 after she received a long pass that took her past the Cedarville defenders. In the 65th minute Trevecca scored again on a shot from the left side of the box to the upper right corner of the goal, just past Harris’s reach.
The G-MAC coaches picked the Lady Jackets to finish second this season, while Trevecca was picked third in the polls behind Ursuline and Cedarville. Last year, the Lady Jackets won the G-MAC regular season title, but fell in the semifinals of the conference tournament to Ursuline.
Cedarville (3-2) has one more home game this week. They face conference opponent Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday as the first match of a double header with the men’s team. The women will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with the men to follow at 7 p.m. for those games. After that the Lady Jackets go on the road for a pair of matches before returning to the home field to face Ohio Valley on October 2.
