The Cedarville Lady Jackets scored late in the second half to tie the visiting Trevecca Nazarene Trojans Sept. 24, and the two teams played to a draw, 1-1.
The game started out slowly, with neither team being able to make a significant impact early in the game. Junior midfielder Grace Miorelli came the closest for the Jackets in the first half with a volley that went slightly shy of the post. Neither side was able to pull ahead until the 36th minute, when Trevecca’s Courtney Dyer received a through ball from Lauren Winters and scored, putting the Trojans in front of the Yellow Jackets with a score of 1-0.
In the second half, both keepers were challenged multiple times, both providing each team with crucial saves. Yellow Jacket’s goalkeeper Hanna Harris, a junior, had a terrific game with seven saves, her second most for a single game. Freshman Alyssa Maillefer nearly scored a wonderful goal by dribbling through defenders, but her shot went slightly over the bar.
In the 78th minute, Cedarville evened the score. Senior forward Jacoby Ziegler took a long shot from 20 yards out, and Miorelli tapped in the rebound off of the hands of the goalie. The game went into double overtime, but neither team was able to come out on top, leaving the score 1-1.
The Lady Jackets (4-2-1) play their next home game at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 26 against Kentucky Wesleyan.
