The Lady Jackets won their home opener against Findlay Tuesday night by a score of 3-1. Findlay took the first set, 25-23, and Cedarville took the last three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-23. It is Cedarville’s ninth straight victory, improving their overall record to 9-2.
Abby Shelton and Krissy Pratt lead the way for the Jackets with 16 kills a piece. Pratt also lead the team in digs with 15. Rachel Krikke added 13 kills and six blocks. Kristin Cardwell had a team high 49 assists.
The first set was hard fought and close the whole way. Neither team lead by more than three points. Cedarville tied the score at 23 and then Findlay scored the last two points to take the set.
Cedarville started the second set with a 4-0 lead and eventually lead 7-1. Findlay fought back to tie the score up at 17. Then Cedarville scored four straight points to make it 21-17. Both teams exchanged points the rest of the way and Cedarville took the second set 25-21 with Abby Shelton getting the final kill.
The third set was close to start. Both teams were tied at 5, then Cedarville went on a 5-0 run to make it 10-5. After Findlay added two more points, the Jackets got hot and went on a run to make the score 24-12. They eventually won the set 25-14.
The fourth set was the tightest of them all. The score was tied 13 different times throughout the set. Cedarville was dowm down 17-21 near the end. A couple errors by Findlay and a kill from both Pratt and Krikke tied the score at 21. Both teams traded points to make the score tied once again at 23. Krikke and Shelton got back to back kills to take the set 25-23 and the game.
1,074 were in attendance for the Lady Jacket victory and the first 1,000 received free Cedarville volleyball t-shirts.
The Jackets next match will be Thursday at home against Northern Michigan.
