Cedars March for Life 2025

Prior to the National March for Life, Cedarville students walked to the Washington Monument, where the rally would take place. As they approached, they heard the sound of worship getting louder and louder.

On January 24th, Cedarville University’s Students for Life chapter joined tens of thousands of Pro-Life supporters from all over the nation in Washington, D.C,, for the National March for Life:A march calling for the end of the barbaric genocide of millions of babies created in the image of God.

Cedarville’s Students for Life chapter works “together with the student body to equip the church in order to protect the unborn,” senior Biblical Studies major Harleigh Brunette said.

“Whether that is volunteering through local pregnancy resource centers or praying outside the Dayton abortion mill, we do whatever we can to protect the unborn and support moms who are considering abortion to choose life.”

According to the National Right to Life Committee, since the 1973 Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision, more than 63 million human children have been killed in the United States. With the advance of the at-home abortion pill, this number continues to grow exponentially.

This is what drove many Pro-Life supporters to march in the cold – to be a voice for the voiceless.

Gathered around the Washington Monument, students heard from well-known speakers such as U.S. Vice-President JD Vance, Florida Governor Ron Desantis, and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.

“The most encouraging thing was just the sheer amount of people that were there, even though Roe v Wade has been overturned for some time now,” junior communication major Rachel White said. “The movement realizes there’s still so much that needs to be done.”

Because of the vast number of pro-life supporters, the march took a total of two hours to walk from the Washington Monument to the Capitol building – a distance of only one mile.

The next day, Cedarville students attended the 2025 National Pro-Life Summit to hear from well-known speakers such as Dr. Ben Carson, Charlie Kirk and Kristan Hawkins.

One of the speakers at the Summit tragically reported that 1/5th of the 18 to 25-year-old age group is gone because of abortion. The speaker mentioned that for every fifth person sitting next to you, there should be another young adult there, but there is not.

“It is the biggest genocide,” White said. “These babies can’t defend themselves. One out of every five is dead because of basically free access to abortion.”

To be a voice for the voiceless is a call for all Christians to follow their Savior – to passionately love and save those who have the sentence of death upon them, to save those who can’t save themselves.

“God created us in our mother’s womb and formed us together.” Students for Life President and Senior Broadcasting and Digital Media and Journalism major Jason De Mets said. “We are put on this earth to work for His glory and His name. That includes advocating for Him.”

It is a call not only to love the helpless babies but also to love the mothers – a call to love your neighbor as yourself.

“As Christians, seeking to love your community is huge,” White said. “That doesn’t have to be in just going to a pregnancy resource center. That could be, ‘I am going to help out with this food drive. I am going to ladle soup at the homeless shelter.’ There are so many things you can do to love the voiceless in the community. I know that is something Scripture calls us to do.”

The Students for Life chapter offers opportunities to serve and advocate. Whether it’s simply serving alongside other brothers and sisters in Christ to clean, organize, and pray for pregnancy resource centers and their employees or whether it’s praying and worshipping outside of an abortion clinic. Together, Cedarville University can make a big impact.

“For Cedarville students, I think it is really important to get involved and know and see,” White said. “There were screens at the March for Life that were showing abortions. You see what’s happening: there’s blood, they try to get away. This isn’t a cute ‘I’m pro-life babies shouldn’t die,’ this is a ‘people are dying; what are you going to do?’”
