Cedarville’s Got Talent season 2 premiered on Friday, October 23rd, during ALT Night 1. Ten acts competed with talents such as a kazoo chorus, Rubik’s cube solving and many singing and dancing performances.
It began at 7 o’clock in the Jeremiah Chapel. Students filled the floor level of the chapel, parts of both sides of the waterfall sections, and into the balcony. The show was judged by Kris DeWitt, Beth Porter, Andrew McKay and Jeffery Davenport.
Thaddeus Krueger and his multitasking act received one of the highest scores from the judges, with a 39.5. He solved a Rubik’s cube while juggling, which impressed the entire audience. Apparently, only 15 people in the world can solve a Rubik’s cube and juggle at the same time, which may be a number Kreuger made up.
Many acts were music based, one being Joanna Lauer playing “A Friend Like Me” from the Disney movie “Aladdin” on the harp. She has played the harp for 10 years and wanted to hear her favorite songs played on her favorite instrument. But since not many people know how to play the harp, she learned to play them herself.
“I had to learn [these songs],” she said. “So I learned [them] by ear.”
One music group was the A Capella Group singing “Run to You” by Pentatonix. They impressed the judges and silenced the audience with their vocals.
“Absolutely beautiful,” judge Kris DeWitt said to the group. “It was the best so far.”
Another group, LOL Group Improv, didn’t even rehearse their act. Being an improv group, they were given a prompt as soon as they got on the stage: “Guess the guest house party” with Cedarville general education classes. They had the audience laughing with their quips about biology, history, algebra, humanities, business profession and many other gen ed classes.
Other acts included “Piano” by Billy Joel, a dance group dancing to “Great Night” by Need to Breathe, a quartet singing “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” and a memorable ending with a mosh pit to “Ain’t It Fun” by Paramore.
ALT 1 did not just feature Cedarville’s Got Talent. At 5 o’clock in the evening, students filed to the field next to Maddox Hall to play Spikeball and cornhole. Cupzilla, one of Cedarville’s favorite food trucks, pulled into the DMC circle, had a line stretched to the stairs in front of the DMC.
Other activities included making custom license plates in the DMC and an outdoor foam dance party in the field between Apple and Williams.
