Letter from the editor

Dear Reader,

If you find yourself a member of the class of 2026 like me, you might also be wondering: How did we get here so fast? One minute, we were figuring out who to sit with in chapel and what foods to avoid in Chucks, and now we’re seniors watching the freshmen figure things out for themselves.

As I step into this year as Editor-in-Chief of Cedars, I can’t help but think about how fast these four years (or 1000 days) go, and how important it is to capture them while we can. That’s what student journalism is to me: a living record of our campus, written by students, for students.

Here at Cedars, we want to create something that feels like a reflection of the joys, challenges, and stories that make our time at Cedarville unique. Our goal is to tell the stories that matter.

The truth is, I, like many others in the senior class, have not even the slightest idea what life will look like a year from now. But what I do know is that I want to leave this year having helped tell stories that remind us who we are as a community. Stories that help us to think and reflect, and stories that we’ll want to remember for years after our 1000 days here are over.

The days here move quickly– faster than we hope for or expect. But in the middle of the rush, there’s something meaningful about pausing, reflecting and recording what’s happening around us. That is the heart of student journalism. That is the heart of Cedars.

Here’s to a year of capturing the moments, both ordinary and extraordinary, that make Cedarville unforgettable.

Sincerely,

Julia Swain

Editor-In-Chief, Cedars
