Stung ‘em: Jackets declare victory by a landslide in final GMAC qualifier

by Lauren Vargas

As the month of the supermoon dawns upon Cedarville Township, the Lady Jackets stepped up to the celestial occasion. They became the stars of the night on Tuesday against the Ohio Dominican Panthers, giving them a first-class ticket home with a final score of 4-0.

Remarkable plays and strategic setups gave the Jackets a leg up on the Panthers in this GMAC qualifier. Cedarville’s Audrey Stanley scored an incredible shot in the 22nd minute, getting the match off to a great start. She would later offer two skilled assists that helped to seal the Panthers’ ultimate defeat.

Still staggering from Stanley’s goal, Ohio Dominican attempted to regroup and outmaneuver the Jackets strategically. Their attempts, however, were unsuccessful, and the Jackets possessed the ball for most of the remainder of the game.

Without a misstep, freshman Amber Garman turned up the heat in the 35th minute and scored her first-ever goal as a Yellow Jacket. As if the two goals weren’t enough, Ella Webb made the Panthers turn tail with a third in the back of the net two minutes later.

With such incredible play-by-play and team coordination, Cedarville’s dynamic was making the Panthers’ heads spin.

The Panthers had their work cut out for them. With 8 wins and 9 losses under their belts, they desperately needed to improve their game in the second half if they hoped to regain control of this GMAC qualifier.

Webb was quick to shut the Panthers down, however. The 71st minute brought her second score of the game, and the fourth goal stacked against Ohio Dominican.

The strategic setups of the Jackets blew the Panthers out of the water, and head coach Jonathan Meade was all too eager to mention how impressed he was with his team’s performance.

“Tonight was a fun night,” Meade said. “and something that we talked about before this game was being content with the outcome. The way that we could be content is with our preparation, our energy, and our execution. I think we’re all happy with that tonight.”

Moving toward the GMAC tournament, Meade knows the competition will be stiff.

“It’s really anybody’s game, so you know, you have to be prepared and be at your best. But this is what we play all season [for].”

Cedarville’s fans wait anxiously to see how the Lady Jackets perform in this weekend’s Great Midwest Championship Tournament against Thomas More on November 8th.
