A win and then a loss, a win and then a loss.
The Cedarville women’s basketball team continued its season pattern with a 75-52 loss against the undefeated Malone Pioneers on Thursday night.
Ending the first half down 47-18, the Lady Jackets knew it would be tough to finish strong with full energy. Between the strong Malone defense and the way their shots were falling, it was difficult for Cedarville to keep up.
The Pioneers were strong competition for the Lady Jackets. Going into the game, the Pioneers were ranked 21st in the nation and now hold a 9-0 season record with a 3-0 record in the GMAC conference.
The Cedarville versus Malone game was representative of the way the Jackets’ season has been going so far: back and forth between wins and losses.
The second half brought much more success for Cedarville, with the Jackets forcing 21 turnovers from the visitors. Though the Lady Jackets were able to come back and win the second half 34-28, it wasn’t enough to defeat the Pioneers.
“In the locker room, we really talked about turnovers and rebounding,” said head coach Addy Miller. “We have to win both of those margins, and right now on the losses, we are not, and on the wins, we are.”
“I told them until we become consistent at those things, we are going to be up and down.”
Up and down is just the way to describe the Thursday night game, and the Cedarville women’s basketball season this far.
The team is dedicated to getting better each minute of the game, and hopefully, with the up and down nature of their season, there are more highs to come. The Lady Jackets still have plenty more basketball to play this season. Hopefully, they can turn their win-lose streak into a multi-game win streak.
The Lady Jackets are ready to prepare and improve before their Saturday matchup against Ohio Dominican.
