SGA: The January Open Letter

To: Students of Cedarville University
From: Donnie, Hugo & the SGA Team

Part of the role of SGA at Cedarville is to be a voice for the student body. These Open Letters exist to keep students informed and engaged by sharing how SGA is listening, responding and acting on behalf of the campus community. They work alongside our Open Meetings to ensure every student has access to what is happening, whether through conversation or communication.

Here’s what’s happening on SGA:

  • ELLIV – from Eli & Catherine, the Events Director & Assistant Events Director
    • Elliv host auditions are here! Sign up by Feb 5
  • Student Orgs – from Lisi, Livvy & Andrew, the Involvement Directors
    • As the academic year comes to an end, current student organizations will need to fill out transition forms for all new organization presidents
    • Students have the ability to apply for an organization to be created
  • Campus Community  – from Katey, the Campus Community Director
    • February 1st is Sunday Night @ CU featuring Ashton Keehn
    • February 15th is Sunday Night @ CU the Jazz Band Valentines Special
    • If there are student performers that would be interested in being a part of future Sunday nights then they can reach out to me – kdecker@cedarville.edu!
  • Seniors – from Naomi, Tim, Emily & Landon, the Senior Class Council
    • The senior class just completed senior class chapel on January 22nd, where Landon dove into Micah 6. We have also been working hard planning the logistics of the JS dance coming up in April, along with the junior class. We continue to complete representation meetings every week, as well as begin to plan our senior class event that will take place later on this semester.
  • Juniors – from Ethan, Gracie, Aubre & Jack, the Junior Class Council
    • Junior Class Chapel takes place on February 12th
    • Upcoming Junior Class Event –
      • Later this semester we will be hosting a fun class event; we would love to see all of you there – details to follow!
    • Word of Encouragement to the Junior Class
      • In this season, it can be tempting to focus on or worry about the future. Plans for after Cedarville, next year or next month can swirl into a dizzying storm making it hard to trust the promises of God. In this struggle we must draw near to seek truth from scripture. In Matthew 6:30-34, Jesus tells us to trust the plans of the Lord. We serve a God who knows each of us better than we know ourselves. The only response is to surrender completely to whatever He has for our lives. It is our prayer that you would do that, especially in this season.
  • Sophomores – from Dawson, Kylee, Cara & Zeke, the Sophomore Class Council
    • Back to the Garden – on Friday, March 27th at 7 p.m.
      • Back to the Garden is an event to create a space for sophomores to spend time in the presence of the LORD through song, prayer and the Word. In this event, we will be discussing the topic of Abiding in Christ as we seek His face. At the end of the event, staying on theme, we will serve fruit as a treat to sophomore students for a time of fellowship and nutrition. The sophomore class is partnering with Living Room Worship to make this happen!
  • Freshmen – from Emma, Eric, Anna & Ian, the Freshman Class Council
    • Upcoming Freshman Class Event
      • We are still in early processes of planning, but be on the lookout for updates as we begin to advertise our Spring Event!
    • Word of Encouragement to the Freshman
      • Look for ways to outdo one another in love and service. As the first month of our second semester here on campus comes to a close, remember that we are all still finding our way around our new schedules and learning more about ourselves and our relationships with God than ever. In light of this, tell your friends today that they are awesome, pray for them, and look for ways you can serve them well today!
