Kayla Jenerette’s hot start sparked Cedarville to a 78-56 victory Saturday over Alderson Broaddus, lifting the Lady Jackets to 3-2 in the G-MAC.
The Jackets played tight defense in the first half, forcing three shot-clock violations. They were committed to forcing the Battlers toward the sideline and keeping the ball out of the paint. The Lady Jackets went into the locker room at the half up 42-24 and never looked back.
Jenerette started off hot, hitting her first six shots, including a left-handed layup on which she was fouled. Offensively, she set the tone with 15 first-half points in a game that saw every Yellow Jacket score.
Deborah Gordon was perfect from the field with 12 points and four rebounds. Kaysie Brittenham scored 10 and was 2-4 from 3-point range. Also scoring for Cedarville were Kayla Linkous with nine; Raegan Ryan with seven; Taylor Vander Plas with seven; and Olivia Petek with five. Cedarville shot 53 percent from the field, 44 percent from three, with 18 team assists. Ryan and Vander Plas led the Jackets in assists with seven and five, respectively.
For the Battlers, Nautica Davis scored 12 points, Korie Maryo had eight, and Rachel Ashley added five to go with her seven rebounds.
Six of Cedarville’s next seven games are on the road, all against G-MAC opponents. The next home game is Feb. 1, at 5:30 p.m. against Central State.
