Brian Johnson, a 2012 Cedarville University graduate and Cleveland, Ohio, native, will appear on NBC’s “The Voice” during the show’s blind audition round. And according to Johnson’s music Facebook page, he’ll make that appearance this week.
“I have a REALLY good feeling about the possibility of being on this next week’s episodes,” he said in a Feb. 27 status.
Johnson announced his audition for “The Voice” Feb. 6 on social media.
While at Cedarville, Johnson studied organizational communication and held various student positions, including work in the university’s admissions office and for the advancement division’s phonathon. Johnson also performed in Thursday Night Live Interruptions in the university’s cafe, The Hive, and in the annual student-run awards show, Elliv.
Johnson performed a duet of “Turning Tables” with fellow student Anna Zavodney in Cedarville’s 2012 Elliv.
Johnson also won a nationwide Taylor Swift video contest in 2009 with classmate Tyler Scott for their rendition of Swift’s “Love Song.” Their video entry was voted the best entry. The prize? Tickets to a Swift concert in New York City, backstage passes, and more.
The show
“The Voice” began its eighth season Feb. 23 with Christina Aguilera, Pharrell Williams, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as celebrity musician coaches. Carson Daly hosts the show.
The nationwide vocal competition is divided into five parts, culminating with live performances, and the winner, who is named “The Voice,” receives a recording contract:
- Blind Auditions
- Battle Rounds
- Knockouts
- Live Playoffs
- Live Performance Shows
Blind Auditions
Blind auditions continue March 2-3 at 8 p.m. In this round, competitors are heard, but not seen. Coaches listen with their backs to the competitors, and if impressed by the competitor’s voice, a button is pushed and the coach’s chair swivels to face the vocalist. The press of a button means the vocalist has made one of the coaches’ teams and will be moving onto the battle round.
Tune into NBC 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays to watch “The Voice.”
