Cedarville ice cream store The Neapolitan closed its doors permanently this afternoon, Jan. 19, according to a Facebook post on The Neapolitan’s official page.
“The time has come for us to close the Neapolitan,” Taylor Minor, owner of The Neapolitan and Stoney Creek Roasters said in the post. “As we look towards the future of Stoney Creek Roasters we must begin to focus our efforts and expertise in a single direction. Thank you for your support and encouragement over the past 7 years. We look forward to exploring this new chapter with you.”
According to comments on the post, The Neapolitan closed up shop when the ice cream ran out this afternoon. The Neapolitan opened in September 2012, according to an earlier Facebook post.
Stoney Creek baristas said they were surprised by the news.
“Honestly, I heard about it today on Facebook,” said Ben Fawcett, a senior business management major and barista at Stoney Creek.
Beth Hansford, a sophomore psychology major, said she visited The Neapolitan a few times with her d-group last year.
“They had amazing ice cream,” she said. “I just love the fact it was made in store. I don’t know, it just had a certain quality to it. It was really good.”
Marra Aldredge and Mikayla Vanhoose, two juniors at Greeneview High School in Jamestown, said they came to The Neapolitan frequently and are disappointed Cedarville has lost an ice cream shop.
“I didn’t know it was closing, but I’m pretty upset to hear that it is,” Vanhoose said. “We really don’t have a lot of ice cream places around, so this is where we came to.”
Gifts cards for The Neapolitan will be accepted at Stoney Creek Roasters, Stoney Creek wrote on its Facebook page.
Minor was not able to be reached for a comment Tuesday evening.
