Cedarville Blown Out by Alderson-Broaddus

The Yellow Jackets were outplayed in nearly every aspect of the game, men’s basketball head coach Pat Estepp said, as the team fell to the visiting Alderson-Broaddus Battlers Saturday night, 77-58.

Estepp said the turning point of the game came in the first several minutes of the second half. Cedarville was down, 36-22 at halftime.

“We needed to come out because we were so bad offensively in the first half,” he said. “We had to come out and knock down some shots, make some layups, and get some confidence going, and we didn’t. It was almost the exact opposite, and when that happens, it’s hard to bounce back.”

Eight minutes into the second half, the Battlers pushed the lead to 21, thanks to a combination of good shooting on their part and bad shooting from the home team.

“You can’t let teams shoot 64 percent when you’re down anyway,” Estepp said. “If you can’t shoot, you better be able to defend and rebound, and tonight, we did not do either one of those well.”

Cedarville’s offense struggled all night, as they shot 34 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free throw line. They also lost the rebound battle, 46-30.

Junior forward J.C. Faubion led the team with 17 points, 14 of which came in the second half. He also had a team-high six rebounds. Junior forward Easton Bazzoli added 12 points.

Alderson-Broaddus had five players in double figures, including forward Richard Lemon, who had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Halfway through the first half, sophomore forward Patrick Bain came up limping halfway through the first half and left the game. He came back with four minutes left in the half, however, and looked to be fine.

This loss puts Cedarville at 8-11 (1-4 G-MAC). The Jackets go on the road for the next two games, including a match-up with conference leader Kentucky Wesleyan February 4. The Yellow Jackets’ next home game is 7:45 p.m. Thursday, February 11, against Salem International.
