In their home opener, the Cedarville women’s soccer team were shut out 3-0, by the Ohio Dominican University Panthers.
Ohio Dominican struck quickly in the first half with a breakaway goal in the fourth minute. Cedarville had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t quite capitalize. They possessed the ball for most of the first half, but the Panthers were able to hold on to the lead. The Lady Jackets had five shots on goal compared to ODU’s one. However, the Panthers’ one shot turned out to be the only goal of the first half.
The Lady Jackets came out halftime playing aggressively. Both teams competed and took care of the ball. Cedarville put up a valiant effort but couldn’t get a good look at the net.
Finally, junior forward Jacoby Ziegler had a shot that ODU’s goalie deflected just left of the goal. This would turn out to be the Lady Jackets’ only shot on goal in the second half, compared to the Panthers’ seven.
In the 82nd minute, the Panthers scored on a header off a long cross. They scored one more time in the 87th minute.
The Lady Jackets are now 1-1 on the year. They play their next game at home against Tiffin this Saturday, Sept. 13, at 4:30.
