The Cedarville men’s soccer team got their first conference win of the season tonight, shutting out Kentucky Wesleyan University 1-0.
Cedarville controlled the ball in the first half, spending most of the time in Kentucky Wesleyan’s defensive third of the field, taking five shots to the Panther’s one. Despite their dominance, the Jackets were unable to put one in the back of the net and went into the half tied 0-0.
The second half continued much as the first had, with Cedarville dominating possession but the Panther’s defense preventing a score. Finally, in the 64th minute, Zachary Harris found Christian Alexander, who sent a shot past the Cougar’s keeper into the bottom left corner of the net to give Cedarville a 1-0 lead. Kentucky Wesleyan became much more aggressive in the closing minutes. They had their only chance at scoring with four minutes remaining, but a great save by Ethan Dewhurst preserved the win for the Jackets.
Cedarville (3-1-2 (1-0-1 G-MAC)) has one more home game this week. They face Gannon University on Tuesday, September 23 at 7:00.
