Just Sayin’: New Year, New Resolutions
Well, here we are. 2015. I recently watched the “Back to the Future” trilogy, and if any of you are familiar with those movies, you would know Doc Brown takes Marty to 2015 in the second movie. October 21, 2015, to be exact. That is still a few months away, but we have a long way to go to live up to those expectations. No one has a flying car or hover-board. “Jaws 19” is probably not quite in the making yet. Although, I did hear Nike is potentially releasing a pair of shoes that ...
Just Sayin’: Row Your Boat
Well, you’ve made it. Almost. Only one more week stands between you and the freedoms of winter break.
For some of you, thoughts of finals send shivers down your spine. Your professors seem to find joy in condensing an entire semester into a single two-hour time period. And not just one professor. All of them. Your weekly planner is a mixture of all-nighters at Tim Horton’s and multiple Killer Bees from Rinnova the following day.
Others of you may not have it so bad. Maybe you have a ...
Just Sayin’: Don’t Lose the Plot
The two-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy making landfall in the Mid-Atlantic region was last month. The storm would end up costing the United States around $65 billion, second only to Hurricane Katrina.
It had been almost a full month since Hurricane Sandy came ashore when my family joined a group from my church in Pennsylvania on a day trip to help with the relief efforts.
The first thing I noticed was the garbage hanging six feet above the ground in the trees. The worst of it had ...
Just Sayin’: Be Where You Are
It’s fall in Ohio. The days are warm and nights are crisp. The leaves will be at their peak colors in the next couple weeks, and Peifer Orchard has amazing apple cider slushies for two dollars. Young’s should have the corn maze up and running, and Fairborn has a wonderful disc golf course. The sunsets at Buck Creek easily rival Cedarville’s, and Yellow Springs will be having the street fair soon. The day after this is put in print if I am correct. And who could forget Pumpkin Spice Lattes ...
Just Sayin’: A Little About Me
Welcome back, everyone! I’m sure most of you are starting to settle down and establish your routines for the semester. Hopefully you have been able to sort through the plethora of assignments located within your syllabi and have not suffered from shock. I’m still trying to figure out my schedule, and this is my fourth year here, so no worries if you still need to get a little more organized.
I figured the best way for me to start off this column would be with some kind of introduction. If ...
Just Sayin’: Freshmen Edition
Let me begin by saying welcome to all freshmen and transfers. We are happy you decided to join us in our little bubble hidden within the cornfields of Ohio. If you haven’t noticed by now, this is a somewhat tight-knit community. This place may seem somewhat large and intimidating to some of you right now, but trust me, in a few weeks you will feel right at home. And for those of you without cars, well, you may feel a little stuck at home.
I decided to create a small and anything but ...
Editors’ Picks 2013-2014
Movies:
“The Lego Movie”
It seems like “The Lego Movie” was swept aside in light of much bigger and supposedly more important movies surrounding its release. If you missed this gem, go see it, even if you never liked Legos. While the movie is basically a giant Lego commercial, the combination of a great storyline, pristine animation, quirky characters and a beautiful message created a movie about plastic toys on par with the “Toy Story” series. It is nearly impossible to finish ...
Just Sayin’: The End.
Hard as it may be to believe, my four years here at Cedarville are finally coming to a close. Four years filled with late-night Taco Bell runs, hastily written papers, tiny dorm rooms and disastrous intramural dodgeball teams. The greatest four years I could imagine.
This place and these people have meant so much to me and have had an immeasurable impact on my life and future. Whether you are a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior, never take for granted the time you’ve been given here. ...
