CU men’s basketball team experiences biblical history in the Holy Land

By: Esther Fultz Most students come to Cedarville with at least a basic knowledge of the Old Testament. We know the stories of David, Samuel, and Solomon like the back of our hand – sometimes so well it’s easy to forget that these are real events that happened in real places. Physically traveling to these real places can provide a new perspective for believers and help them grasp the truth of the events that occurred there. This summer, Cedarville’s men’s basketball team traveled ...

Freshman point guard Ethan Sellars finds fulfillment off the basketball court

By Alan Brads There is an unwritten rule in college athletics. It transcends schools, conferences and even divisions.  Scholarship athletes belong to certain majors – Business, Communication, Finance, Political Science among others. Call it a cliche or trite, but the data is there, and speaking in general terms, the stereotypes are true. Ethan Sellars learned not to believe in unwritten rules. In the summer of 2022 Sellars was accepted to Cedarville’s school of Business, ...

Cedarville Wins Senior Day Thriller

by Alan Brads “We had a phrase this week,” Cedarville coach Pat Estepp said. “Err on the side of guts.” Trailing Kentucky Wesleyan by a point with 3.2 seconds left, an exhausted Grant Whisman had nothing left but guts. Jacob Drees threw a 79-foot pass to Jayvon Maughmer, who turned and dropped a pass to Brayden Sipple for a layup. But Sipple’s layup missed the mark, and there was no time for a proper rebound. Whisman’s put-back attempt hung on the rim, taunting the 1,200 ...

Cedarville Men’s Basketball comes up short versus conference rival Ashland Eagles

By: Julia Swain 4.1 seconds on the clock. Deafening cheers echo through the gymnasium. One shot, one opportunity to turn a two-point deficit into a victory, and senior Jacob Drees finds himself with the ball in his hands.  He dribbles once, twice. Time is dwindling rapidly. His only option is a desperate heave from the foul line to send the game into overtime. He falls back as it slips from his hands, and the ball drops with a resounding thud on the hardwood floor halfway to the ...

Yellow Jackets’ explosive second half sees off aggressive Timberwolves

By: Jonathan Snyder As the Cedarville Yellow Jackets finished off a 10-0 run to start the 2nd half of their game against the Northwood Timberwolves, the scoreboard finally reflected the Jacket’s prowess in a 87-67 win.  Cedarville started off the game keeping the Timberwolves at bay, but never breaking away. There would always be something to keep the Timberwolves close, whether it be turnovers or defensive breakdowns. This led to a four-point lead for the Jackets at the close of ...

Cedarville Men’s Basketball completes comeback against Malone

By: Maggie Fipps "We played a lineup I’ve never even put together in practice.” That’s not usually the phrase you want to hear from your head coach after a game. However, after the Cedarville men’s basketball team went down 12 points in the opening minutes of the first half, Head Coach Pat Estep knew he had to do something drastic.  “The lineup was all guards,” said Estep. “I was just trying to find five guys who could space them out.”  His out-of-the-box ...

Weary Jackets unable to weather the Storm in a 9-point defeat

by Jonathan Snyder The Cedarville Yellow Jackets fell to Lake Erie Storm 81-70 in a game that saw little interior defense for the Jackets. The team came into this game after a physical contest against conference rival Walsh on Thursday, and the Jackets were feeling the effects of the previous battle throughout the first half. From the opening tip, it was clear that the Storm would make the Jackets work for the win, with double teams on the sidelines and quick ball movement forcing the ...

Cedarville outlasts Walsh in conference title rematch

By: Alan Brads Pressure mounted, tempers flared and tension built to the point of explosion, escalating to a raucous celebration after the Yellow Jackets’ 72-65 victory. These two schools competed in last year’s conference championship game, with Walsh winning the title, but a determined core group of Cedarville upper-classmen refused to let Walsh halt another winning streak. Every Walsh-Cedarville game is intense, and this game was no exception. Cedarville’s play embodied the ...
