Offense Powers Jackets to Conference Win

The Cedarville men’s basketball team set a season-high in points scored in their 91-81 win over G-MAC opponent Ohio Valley Thursday night at the Callan Athletic Center. On offense, it was a three man show for Cedarville in the first half. After giving up a deep three-pointer in the opening seconds and turning the ball over on their first two possessions, an Austin Pickett dunk off of a breakaway steal gave the Yellow Jackets a much needed burst of energy. They played the remainder of ...

Movie Review: ‘American Sniper’

A slew of war related movies have hit theaters in the past few months. October moviegoers were given "Fury," a World War II movie about a tank crew and the grim reality of war. The moving story of a former Olympian-turned-Air Force Pilot and prison camp victim was portrayed in "Unbroken," which was released on Christmas day. And this month, "American Sniper," the highly anticipated movie based on the autobiography of the same title about Chris Kyle, was released. The intense trailers for ...

‘Harry Potter’ According to Filmgate

Cedarville's student film org, Filmgate, is in the post-production stages of a shot-by-shot remake of one of the beginning scenes of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” Filmgate was formed to give film students the opportunity to work in an actual creative setting of the filmmaking process. The organization was supposed to be created long before it was, but did not have the energy or committed members to begin. “Josh (Sommers) gave it the energy to get it started,” said ...

A look back at the Golden Globe Awards

The current entertainment awards season officially kicked off last Sunday, Jan. 11, with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s (HFPA) 72nd Golden Globe Awards. While underappreciated at times as a sort of an awkward younger sibling to the Academy Awards, the event typically honors a wider pool of talent and contributions. Where the Oscars tend to be more conservative and predictable, the Globes oftentimes produce more surprising outcomes. As the popular saying goes, always be ...

Lady Jackets Win Fifth Straight

Sophomore power forward Kayla Linkous led the way with her third straight double-double as the Jackets continued their winning ways. The Lady Jackets held the Trojans to just eight points in the first 10 minutes, but after being stymied offensively, the visiting team started knocking down threes, cutting the lead down to make it 19-17. The score never got ...

Cedarville Fails to Defend Home Court Against Trojans

The Cedarville men’s basketball team could not contain the offense of Trevecca Nazarene, who emerged with a 91-79 victory over the Yellow Jackets at the Callan Athletic Center Jan. 17. Both teams looked to push the tempo early on and they remained even for much of the first half. However, a 10-2 run by Trevecca late in the half gave them a lead they would never relinquish. They led 47-39 at halftime. The Trojans opened the second half with another 10-2 run, stretching their lead to ...

No Time Like the Present

Tis the season to be, well, greedy. Christmas is a time of family, food and a break from the stresses of life, but the holiday emphasis is often on the gifts one will soon receive. While this is not a bad thing, Christmas can also be used to bless those in need both materially and spiritually. Jim Cato, associate vice president of Christian ministries, said he and his family have used the holidays to give gifts to families in need and send gift-filled shoeboxes to children around the world ...

Editors’ 2014 Christmas Media Picks

Movie Review: “The Muppet Christmas Carol” “The Muppet Christmas Carol” is a delightful adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale in which a greedy old man named Scrooge is visited by four ghosts on Christmas Eve. During these visits, Scrooge (spoiler alert – oh wait, the book has been out for over a hundred years!) has a change of heart and learns to embrace the spirit of Christmas. The movie stays true to the novel on which it’s based, and the cast consists of both humans ...
