Enjoying the Great Indoors
Ah, winter — a beautiful time of year, with so much to look forward to. Christmas cheer, winter break, and time with family. However, after the fun is over and it is still bitterly cold in February, it’s often hard to find something to do indoors.
As the temperature outside drops, Cedarville students are going to have to find creative ways to spend those long weekends. To prevent mid-winter boredom, Cedars has found six locations within driving distance that are low-cost and unique.

Just Sayin’ – On Improvement and Posturing
There are small moments in life when you think that maybe, if you try a little harder, you can do better. It’s true. At least it’s true if you live in a place where hard work always equals a better reward. If you find that place, send me the address, I’d love to visit.
I constantly search for things to do instead of the work I am supposed to do, which is commonly known as procrastinating. Oddly enough, I find enjoyment when writing on the brink of deadlines. One time, pulling an ...
Cedarville Faces Trouble Renovating Police Station
The Village of Cedarville is facing unforeseen difficulties in renovating the old American Legion building for police use. The building sits next to the village park, down the street from the fire station. The Village has been trying to find better facilities for the police department for years, and is now trying to find a solution to FEMA restrictions.

Hoffman Receives the Torch
It’s not too often that a team with a 22-8 record and a regular season conference championship under its belt changes coaches. The 2016-17 Cedarville Lady Jackets basketball team is experiencing that rare occasion.
Former head coach Kirk Martin retired from the Cedarville basketball program after 15 years. He is the winningest coach in the program’s history.
Now, Kari (Flunker) Hoffman, one of the most accomplished players Martin has coached at Cedarville, grabs the reins of the team ...
Visiting the Beloved Bard
On Friday, Nov. 11th, a group of almost 30 Cedarville students had the chance to go on a day trip to learn more about the beloved bard, William Shakespeare. The students were led by English professors Peggy Wilfong and Scott Calhoun.
Dr. Wilfong, professor of the Shakespeare class offered here on campus, encouraged all the students in her section to go along on the trip. Mostly English students joined the class but other majors were represented as well.
The trip was focused on viewing a ...
Serving Those with Addiction
Her husband was waiting for her when she came home.
He went upstairs to run a warm bath for her and help her get cleaned up. When he came back downstairs, he found his wife talking to her children in the kitchen, convincing them to give her the money in their piggy banks.
She told them that “Mommy needed the money to feel better.”
She was a heroin addict, suffering from dope sickness and desperate for another dose. And she was one of hundreds that live practically next door, and ...
Ansen Lancaster: Worship Leader
Ansen Lancaster, a senior worship major and the current SGA worship leader, has a passion for music, prayer, encouragement and seeing people grow in the Lord. His interest in music began with listening to Christian radio stations while he was growing up, which allowed him to enjoy Christian music that he did not hear much of on Sundays due to attending small churches. In the sixth grade, he started playing the alto saxophone in band to avoid taking a fine arts class, and music has been an ...
Just Sayin – On Home and the Holidays
Every holiday season, nostalgia finds a place in our hearts and minds. We will often think back to past Thanksgivings and Christmases, sometimes with fond but realistic memories, and other times jealous that our lives seemed so much more in order. Nostalgia, in fact, is derived from Greek, Latin and German words that mean homesick, but now nostalgia means an affectionate longing for the past. Although the meaning has changed slightly, I think homesickness and nostalgia are one in the same, and ...
International Christmas Traditions
With Christmas just around the corner, and everyone getting excited for break, Cedars wanted to take a moment to ask some students about their favorite Christmas traditions.
Cedarville is proud to have a diverse student body from different countries and cultures. To celebrate that, Cedars interviewed some students of MuKappa, the international students’ organization, to learn a little about how they celebrate Christmas.
Honduras
Barhona’s favorite part of Christmas is illegal.

He has owned the business for eight years and outlines his vision for the future as well as the multiple reasons behind the name change.
