Movie Review: The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part
by Hunter Johnson
In 2014, audiences were introduced to the lovable LEGO icon known as Emmet Brickowski, voiced by fan-favorite Chris Pratt. Based on the extremely popular construction toys, “The LEGO Movie” was expected to be a simple cash-grab for Warner Bros, that is, until the film actually came out.
“The LEGO Movie” dominated at the box office and at the critical arena. It was hailed as a groundbreaking achievement in both visual effects and in creative storytelling. Audiences ...
Movie Review: “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”
by Hunter Johnson
After six live-action films, a full integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a weird Venom spin-off/reboot, Spider-Man has hit theaters yet again, but this time, he’s animated, and his name isn’t Peter Parker.
“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” is directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman and is written by Phil Lord, the writer/director of films like “The LEGO Movie” and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.”

Movie Review: ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
by Hunter Johnson
Directed by Bryan Singer, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a new film starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. The film focuses on the life of Mercury and his position as lead singer of the band Queen.
Overall, “Bohemian Rhapsody” is a well-made biopic that nicely demonstrates the legacy and brilliance of Queen. It’s also a film that feels the need to include as many Queen songs as it possibly can, essentially making the film an extended music video.
While it demonstra...
Movie Review: “Venom”
by Hunter Johnson
As many people know, “Venom” has just hit theatres and while it’s certainly not a financial failure, it’s getting less than favorable reception from the critics. But it’s important to understand where this movie came from. How does a movie about one of Spider-Man’s greatest foes get made without Spider-Man in it?
Sony Pictures has been trying to get their grip on superhero filmmaking for a long time now. They’ve had the film rights to everything related to ...
Play Review: ‘Fools’
by Summer Lange
“Fools”, the story of a bright schoolteacher determined to educate a town cursed with ignorance, as performed by Cedarville’s talented students, left the audience in uproarious laughter on opening night.
The comedy, written by the late Neil Simon, begins with an optimistic Leon Tolchinsky, played by the fantastic Jeremy Smith, explaining to the audience why he has come to the small village of Kulyenchikov, Ukraine: he has been hired by Dr. Zubritsky (Nathan Robertson) ...
Top 5 Movies of Summer 2018
by Nathan Robertson
This summer provided many strong movie options. We saw the return (albeit 12 years too late) of the adored superhero family in “Incredibles 2.” Action movies were strong with the latest movies in the Mission Impossible, Marvel, and Jurassic World series. This summer also had a surprisingly healthy showing of documentaries, two of which are featured in this list. So without further ado, these are my top five movies of summer 2018.
No movies with an “R” rating are ...
Movie Review: ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’
by Hunter Johnson
Mission: Impossible is one of the most fascinating modern film series for one specific reason: each of its first five films were directed by a different director. Each movie had its own unique tone and style to it, so each one always felt new and fresh. Really, the only common through line of every film being Tom Cruise’s presence.
That was true until this year, when Christopher McQuarrie, the director of “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” was asked to return to ...
Movie Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
by Hunter Johnson
The first Captain America film had just one superhero. Then the second Captain America film, directed by the Russo brothers, came along and starred Cap alongside three other heroes. The Russo brothers then returned for the third Captain America film, taking the character count to a whole new level at a whopping twelve protagonists, all with fully fleshed-out stories and roles.
Nearly seven years after the first Captain America film, the Russo brothers return to create ...
Play Review: ‘Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery’
by Kaileigh Willis
Cedarville’s production of “Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery” kept its audience intrigued and laughing during its opening night on Thursday April 5th.
A comical retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Hound of the Baskervilles,” Ken Ludwig’s production follows the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes (Will Douglas) and his partner Dr. Watson (Jordan Fredericks) as they are called to crack a baffling case. After Sir Charles Baskerville’s ...
Movie Review: ‘Ready Player One’
by Hunter Johnson
Steven Spielberg says that the three movies that were most difficult to make were: “Jaws,” “Saving Private Ryan,” and “Ready Player One.”
“Ready Player One” is the 33rd movie to be directed by Steven Spielberg and is written by Zak Penn and Earnest Cline, the author of the 2011 novel of the same name.
It tells the story of a future where virtual reality has become part of everyone’s world. Wade Watts must complete the VR game in order to stop a large ...
