The Cedarville men’s basketball team dominated visiting Wilberforce tonight with a barrage of offense and a mix up of defenses.
The Yellow Jackets opened the game with a 12-3 run led by Marcus Reineke’s 10 points off three 3-pointers, one of which was an and-one. Cedarville didn’t let up for the rest of the half, extending the lead to 25. The onslaught continued in the second half, ending in a Cedarville victory of 94-74.
Reineke led the team with 19 points. Austin Pickett added 14; Lane Vander Hulst had 13; J.C. Faubion had 13 points and six assists; Easton Bazzoli scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds; Leighton Smith had 10 points; and Jason Cuffee had 10 rebounds. The Yellow Jackets shot 53 percent from the field and 45 percent from three, in addition to out-rebounding the Bulldogs 45-40.
During halftime, the bank was open for Matt Williams, who used the glass to make the Buckeye Charters Halftime Shot. Williams, who lives in Cedarville and works in maintenance for the university, became $250 richer by making his 74-footer. Williams plans on buying his daughter a bike for her birthday with the money.
With the win, Cedarville moves to 3-11 (1-1 G-MAC) for the season. Both the men and women will host Davis & Elkins next Thursday, Jan. 16. The tipoff for the women will be at 5:30 p.m. with the men to follow.
