Cedarville township attracts many people looking to start their own business. Cedarville University provides the perfect customer base from August to May every year.
Megan Davis is one such entrepreneur. On June 1, 2010, she opened Cutting Edge of Cedarville, Ltd., a hair salon with a witty name.
The salon was originally located in Jamestown, Ohio.
However, Davis said, “There were just way too many salons there. It was time to go out on our own, and so we did.”
She chose Cedarville as the new location. She said, “We decided to pick Cedarville because of the university, hoping that the college kids would come down our way and keep it local. It’s just a really good town to start out in.”
Three employees work full time at Cutting Edge. Together, they offer a number of services, including color, perm, cutting, styling, and facial waxing, Davis said.
The salon is open Tuesday — Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The operating hours are flexible, Davis said. They are able to work around their customers’ schedules.
“If we have somebody who needs to come in at 9 a.m. during the week, we can make that work, too.”
Cutting Edge serves a variety of customers.
“We do men and women and kids, of course,” Davis said.
While some Cedarville students do frequent the place, she said the salon used to receive more business from them until the ones who regularly came recently graduated.
“We need to target and get some of them back down here,” she said.
Davis said it was always her dream to own and operate a hair salon, and she has been doing hair for close to ten years.
She has served Cedarville’s community through Cutting Edge for four and a half of those years.
The customers enjoy Cutting Edge, the services offered, and the employees who work there. Several wrote outstanding reviews on Cutting Edge’s Facebook page.
Kim Snider wrote, “Love this place…..and the wonderful, talented, thoughtful and beautiful ladies who own and run the shop!!!!” Most reviewers gave Cutting Edge a four or five star rating.
“Cutting Edge is only the best place EVER!” wrote Stephanie Martin.
Brooke Jordan wrote, “Love these girls! I’ll never go anywhere else or take my kids anywhere else!”
Cutting Edge added a personal touch to the festive season. Currently, the store is decorated with a pink Christmas tree for the holidays.
Cutting Edge of Cedarville gives the community and the university a welcoming, fun hair-cutting experience for customers of all ages. Visit their Facebook page or call (937) 766-4247 for more information.
