Cedarville leads the G-MAC after gritty win against Malone
By Emily Tuttle
The Cedarville Yellow Jackets (14-5) defeated Malone University (9-10) 68-59 on Wednesday night. They improved to 8-1 in conference play and hold the top spot in the G-MAC.
The Jackets struggled offensively all night. They couldn’t seem to buy a shot in a win where their defense came up large.
They shot only 38.2% from the field despite creating some great looks. It just didn't seem to be their night, but they dug deep and figured out how to win.
Jacob Drees’ ...
‘The Beekeeper’ is the action-packed thriller we all needed
By Anna Harman
I wasn’t sure what to expect from David Ayer’s latest film, “The Beekeper.” All I knew was that it was an action movie about a beekeeper, which sounded odd without any context about the film. What I found out, however, was that it was surprisingly a thrilling, action packed film that was well worth the watch.
“The Beekeper” starts very slowly, introducing Adam Clay (Jason Statham), an ex-commando who has retired and taken on the hobby of beekeeping. ...
Dodgeball Tournament and Silent Disco Highlight Third Alt Night of the Year
By Zoe Ekeh
Cedarville University’s 3rd Alt Night of the year, and the first of the semester, took place on Friday, January 19. It took place in three locations that each had an event or activity taking place.
The first event was held at the Dixon Ministry Chapel. Food trucks were parked in the building's circular parking lot and there were semi lengthy lines for each truck at around 5:30 pm. Yard games and a dodgeball tournament in the Doden Field House, as well as a silent ...
Marvel’s ‘Echo’ puts the mature back into the MCU without reaching its full potential
By Ben Konuch
Minor spoilers for “Echo” ahead.
"They're in my blood, in my heart. I’m a part of them, and they’re a part of me. I’m their legacy. Not yours."
In the midst of 2021, as many were experiencing what is now called “Marvel fatigue,” I found myself more intrigued and invested in Marvel than I ever was before. It wasn’t because of any recent releases, however, it was because when I got sick over Thanksgiving break, I finally got around to binging the first ...
Maughmer’s triple-double extends Jackets’ winning streak to five
By Emily Tuttle
The Cedarville men’s basketball team fought through a scrappy matchup and stoutly beat Wilberforce 98-70 on Wednesday night, January 17.
Wilberforce’s fast-paced nature forced the Jackets to push the ball and run the floor the entire game. The Jackets forced 19 turnovers and scored 24 points off of Wilberforce’s carelessness.
Cedarville played well as a team and moved the ball consistently. Although they shot only 31.7% from behind the arc, they ...
Cedarville mom and daughter review season six of ‘The Crown’
By Ashleigh Clark
My mom and I have been watching “The Crown” together for several years now. I make us lattes and we sit on our ugly green couch in the living room and binge each new season in a few days. As a lover of the Royal family and historical dramas, my mom was the perfect person to review the latest season of ‘The Crown’ with me.
First, a little about my mom: Michelle Clark graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor’s in History from Cedarville. She taught U.S. History ...
‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ episodes 3-4 paint an uncertain future for the series
By Ben Konuch
“The gods want you to believe that, that they are infallible. But they only want what all bullies want. They want us to blame themselves for their own shortcomings.”
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is officially halfway through its first season (of hopefully many), and as much I wish to be able to call this series great as a huge fan of the books, I have to settle with saying that it is good. The last two episodes of the series once again do a fantastic job at ...
Just Sayin’: The case for better small talk
By: Maggie Fipps
College students are lazy.
Yes, that was a ploy to get you to keep reading. Sorry, not sorry.
College students are not lazy in the stereotypical, lay-around-on-the-couch-eating-nothing-but-junk-food-way, although the number of episodes of Gilmore Girls I watched this weekend is a little alarming.
They are lazy in their small talk.
Just think about the times you met someone new this semester. Whether you are a freshman or a senior, the first ...
Cedarville Yellow Jackets weather the Lake Erie Storm in G-MAC showdown
By: Maggie Fipps
The Cedarville Yellow Jackets defeated the Lake Erie Storm 92-86 on Saturday night. No, not the winter storm that raged outside, the storm brewing between these two G-MAC rivals.
Off the first tip, forward Jacob Drees scored, settling himself in as the offensive touchpoint of the game. He finished one assist shy of a triple double.
“He's a catalyst to a lot of what we're doing,” said Cedarville Coach Pat Estepp. “He's starting to get back to where we knew ...
