Opening the Mic

Beans-N-Cream When Beans-N-Cream, a coffee shop in Cedarville, moved to its current location in 2008, manager Mindy Pergram and her husband, Tony (known as "The Barber of the 'Ville"), made sure music would be a part of the new location. “He’s always been into music,” said Pergram, referring to her husband. “When Beans moved to this spot, we said, ‘We have to have a stage.’” And so in the corner of the coffee shop, there’s a stage designed for performers to play in ...

Jackets’ Rally Too Little, Too Late

The Cedarville baseball team's rally came up short, as it lost a close game to the Harriers of Miami-Hamilton University by a score of 4-3. Miami-Hamilton, a member of the Ohio Regional Campus Conference, came into the game boasting a 22-7 record. The starting pitchers for both teams produced good outings. Eric Handleman of the Harriers pitched seven innings striking out five for his second win of the season. Cedarville freshman pitcher Josh Kneeland also pitched well, striking out six ...

Johnson is Coming Home

After two live performances Monday and Tuesday on NBC's "The Voice," Cedarville grad Brian Johnson is headed home to Cleveland. America's votes weren't powerful enough to send Johnson into the top 10 of the competition. Johnson performed Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" before the nation Monday night, but he wasn't wearing his signature hat. Regardless, Johnson had the audience on their feet and was praised by the four coaches. "Man, I'm running out of good things to say to you, ...

Unforeseen Opportunity: Johnson Heads to Live Performance Shows

Cedarville grad and “The Voice” contestant Brian Johnson describes the past week as a roller coaster. “It’s just been an insane week, and there was a lot of emotion going into my performance day because there were eight of us that were cut on results day,” Johnson said. “I stood on stage, and I thought I could be in the bottom three, but in that moment I was thinking like, ‘If I go home tonight, I was so proud of what I put on stage, and I was so proud of like the moment that I ...

STP Preview: ‘Story of My Life’

Senior theatre major Adam Silorey’s Senior Theatre Project (STP) “Story of My Life,” which premieres tomorrow night, tells the story of friendship. “It has nothing to do with One Direction,” Silorey said. Silorey will perform the musical Friday at 8 p.m. in the Alford Auditorium, and admission is free. “Story of My Life” is a musical about an author, Thomas (played by junior David Widder-Varhegyi), who’s writing a eulogy for his friend, Alvin (played by Silorey). ...

Brian Johnson '12 moves onto the final round of NBC's "The Voice" after a favorable performance Tuesday night. The Live Performance Shows – the final round – will begin at 8 p.m. Monday on NBC. Johnson is one of 12 contestants moving on. Coach Adam Levine chose Johnson as the third member of his team to move to the final round. Two contestants from each team were chosen by America's votes cast earlier in the week – through phone, song purchases on iTunes and online voting methods ...

Jackets Split Doubleheader with Panthers

The Yellow Jackets split their Monday doubleheader with the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers, winning the first game, 10-5, and losing the second, 6-4. The doubleheader was the first frame of an important four-game home stint against G-MAC foe Kentucky Wesleyan. Despite an overall solid start from right-hander Nate Robinson, Wesleyan jumped out to an early four-run lead, blanking the Jackets through the first four innings. Coach Mike Manes headed out to give his players a pep-talk. “When I ...
