Sophomore Thrower Mariah Cruise Sets New School Record
Sophomore Mariah Cruise recently broke the Cedarville women's track and field team shot put record, but she said she does not want to be known just for her success on the field.
“I definitely want others to see me as being humble and using my talents for God,” Cruise said.
Cruise was first introduced to the idea of throwing in track at an early age. Her father was her high school’s track coach. She grew up around the sport and began competing during seventh grade.
“My ...
Ethics and the Pharmacist
Controversial issues such as late-term abortion, euthanasia, physician-assisted suicide and contraceptives have dominated the news in recent month. Because of their controversial and difficult nature, these issues represent the need for the study of ethics.
Merriam-Webster defines ethics as “an area of study that deals with ideas about what is good and bad behavior; a branch of philosophy dealing with what is morally right and wrong.” Because ethics and healthcare are closely tied, ...
Comparing Pharmacy Graduate Programs
Students in Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy are already making their mark in healthcare, despite the program’s youth. As the first class of doctoral students graduates on May 7, who are Cedarville’s competitors in the pharmacy profession? What professional opportunities or concentrations do other graduate programs offer pharmacy students?
Cedars researched six pharmacy graduate programs at Midwest or faith-based institutions to provide a summary of Cedarville’s competiti...
48 Graduating Students Pioneer the Pharmacy Path
Cedarville University’s School of Pharmacy will graduate its first doctoral class of 48 students in just a few days. The program, which is nearing full accreditation, was simply a hope 10 years ago.
The beginning
A group of individuals familiar with the university created an advisory council in 2006 that was charged with envisioning a professional pharmacy program at the university. Dean of the School of Pharmacy Marc Sweeney said the school was founded on the idea to train Christian ...
Sacrifice: From Service to Citizen
Keegan D’Alfonso is a 25-year-old freshman at Cedarville University. He works once a month at a nearby Speedway gas station and studies journalism full time. Though he works a low-paying job, D’Alfonso will pay nothing for his degree, nor will he pay much for healthcare and housing in the next few years.
D’Alfonso served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps for five years, enlisting in 2009 right after high school. But upon his discharge from the military in July 2014, he joined the ...
SCOTUS to Review Immigration Programs
Immigration has been a highly discussed issue in the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign. The American Spanish-language television network Telemundo has hosted two presidential debates (one for Republicans and one for Democrats) in this election cycle that focused on the issue.
More specifically, there has been talk about two of President Barack Obama’s executive orders, which the Supreme Court will review this spring: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which was passed in 2012, and ...
Caretakers of the Campus
Cedarville University is a beautiful campus, but it takes a lot of work to keep it that way. The custodial staff at Cedarville cleans over a million square feet of the Cedarville campus daily, and with more than 3,500 students and 200 faculty members on campus to clean up after, the 24 full-time custodians are gainfully employed. Most people are not eager to clean up after themselves, let alone a few hundred other people. However, the custodial staff does this every day. And their job continues ...
The Last of Their Kind
Cedarville seniors Brittany Jones, Alexander LaBreche and Caleb Little will graduate this May as the last Cedarville students to study their respective academic programs. Jones is a sociology major, and LaBreche and Little are philosophy majors.
“The size of the school has driven us to large programs,” said Robert Parr, professor of sociology at Cedarville. “It’s a shift in our educational philosophy. It is reflected in the desire to have programs that are going to attract a larger ...
Album Review: ‘Ascend’
It’s a difficult task, making music. If you’re a band and you’ve found a sound that works for you and your fans, you have a dilemma. You can either stick with what you know will work, and make the same music for years (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it), or you can try to change your sound.
Bands choose the latter for various reasons. They want to push the boundaries of their genre (like August Burns Red) or they’ve outgrown their old sound (like Relient K).
But what every fan may ...
Student Spotlight – Ben Lucas: Photographer, Designer
Ben Lucas, a junior industrial and innovative design major, has done it all, from graphic design to photography and architecture.
Lucas said he has always been creative and expressed himself best through the arts.
“I’ve always been interested in art and design,” he said. “I started work with different mediums like clay, sculpting things, and working with ceramics even in elementary school.”
Though Lucas had always been drawn to the arts, he said watching his grandmother create ...
