The Cedarville University rugby team lost their first match of the season to Wittenberg University on Sept. 14. They battled for 80 minutes, with Wittenberg coming out on top, 24-12. Wittenberg scored early and left Cedarville in a deficit that they could not overcome.
Wittenberg took the lead 24-0 early in the second half but did not score again the rest of the game. Junior Bo Folger scored the first try of the season for the Yellow Jackets. Late in the game senior Chris Wiegand scored Cedarville’s final try to make the score 24-12. It was too little too late for Cedarville.
Cedarville was disappointed in losing their first match of the season, but they are confident in their team and know success will eventually come. They finished the game on a high note and have momentum going into game two.
“We knew it was going to be tough this year with last year’s seniors graduating,” Cedarville senior Dave Haywood said. “So it was good that we were able to slow down and finish the game by scoring the last two tries.”
Cedarville had strong fan support for their game on Saturday, Sept. 14, and hopes to see more fans at future contests. Cedarville will take their momentum into their next contest of the young season.
