Senior Sunday: Aubree Whicker

By Esther Fultz Aubree Whicker is a senior Allied Health Pre-PA major at Cedarville University. After graduating, she will be in Cedarville’s PA program for the next two years.  Over the past four years at Cedarville, Whicker has made a lot of memories. Some of her favorites include dissecting a pig in an anatomy lab, taking a trip to Missouri with her friends, and petting puppies at Petland in Beavercreek. She loves Cedarville’s beautiful campus and loves hammocking and doing other ...

‘Dune: Part One’ showed us how to make a blockbuster beautiful

By Ben Konuch “For the future of House Atreides, there is no call we do not answer, there is no faith that we betray.” When I first saw “Dune” in theaters during the fall of 2021, I realized something about the film: “Dune” is not an action film. You may not think that from its opening scene, an explosive spectacle that shows the people of the desert planet Arrakis desperately fighting back against their invaders. You may be tempted to assume the contrary from any of its ...

“Madame Web” is a nightmarish reflection of Sony’s franchising and it’s time we start asking why

By Ben Konuch From the opening scenes of “Madame Web,” it becomes abundantly clear that this won’t be a good movie. Awkwardly-delivered exposition dumps from bad actors, good actors who inexplicably have wooden performances, a villain whose lines are almost all completely re-recorded and added back into the film via janky ADR, horrible camerawork and ridiculous editing turn “Madame Web” from a film to a laughing stock.  In fact, calling it a film seems like a disservice to ...

Sam Claude’s senior theater project astounds

By Isaac Steward This past weekend, I had the pleasure of watching Sam Claude bring Lauren Gunderson’s 2014 script, “Bauer,” to the Alford Auditorium. This play tells the story of German painter Rudolph Bauer, over a decade after fellow artist and Bauer’s ex-lover, Hilla von Rebay, tricked him into signing away ownership of all his works to Solomon Guggenheim, including anything he creates in the future. Rudolph Bauer hasn’t painted since, and now, thirteen years later, is waiting ...

Election politics impact border policy as Texas combats border crisis

By Esther Fultz In recent years, controversy has raged over the United States’ southern border. A variety of opinions exist regarding the best policies and practices, and the debate is significant because border policy impacts the lives of migrants and their families as well as U.S. citizens. Since President Biden took office in 2021, the federal government’s approach to the border has relaxed. As a result, the number of immigrants lacking permanent legal status in the United States ...

The heartbeat of Lil Sibs Weekend: what makes this weekend event so special

By Bella Agnello This past weekend, hundreds of guests arrived on campus to spend time with their siblings for Lil Sibs Weekend – a Cedarville tradition that reunites siblings for a weekend of fun and experience. Sara Weller, a sophomore in high school, was fortunate enough to visit both of her sisters: Olivia, a junior Exercise Science major, and Aubre, a freshman Worship major. Together, they created a weekend full of memories to last a lifetime. When Sara Weller arrived on campus ...

Injury-riddled Lady Jackets fall on Senior Day

By Alan Brads A gloomy senior day at Callan Athletic Center featured a runaway loss to Trevecca Nazarene while all three Jacket seniors sat sidelined by injuries. The Lady Jackets’ season took its first blow in the third game of the year when senior Anne Wheeler suffered a season-ending injury. And when Lydia Sweeney and Makenna Fee joined her on the injury list, Cedarville just didn’t have enough firepower left. It may not have mattered against Trevecca, as the red-hot Trojans ...

Cedarville’s Second-Half Struggles Allow Kentucky Wesleyan to Secure Win

By Emily Tuttle Cedarville University students and fans came out to support their Jackets in an intense Thursday night thriller. They cheered incessantly and leaped to their feet in crucial moments, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. The Cedarville men's basketball team narrowly fell to G-MAC leader Kentucky Wesleyan 90-77 in a close matchup. The Panthers couldn’t seem to miss all evening. They shot nearly 52% from beyond the arc and 50% from the field. They traded baskets with ...
