Brads Breakdown: Buckle your seatbelts and start your engines

By Alan Brads I like to open with a clever anecdote, something to draw you in, but I’ll resist the urge this week, not because I don’t want to, but because I have to embrace some degree of realism. Nothing, absolutely no introduction I could give, could possibly be even 10% as interesting as the college football matchups going down this weekend. So why even try? Let’s talk football. Without further ado, three storylines and five, (that’s right, I couldn’t settle for just ...

Lady Jackets bounce back with second half flurry

By Carolina Zimbron The Cedarville women’s soccer team shook the crowd with a victory with a second-half scoring avalanche against Lake Erie on Wednesday night. The Lady Jackets have played Lake Erie eight times and have won every match. This game was definitely no exception. Despite the loss they faced last weekend at Northwood, Cedarville managed to deliver a winning score of 4-0 to move to 2-1 in conference matches and 5-2 overall. Despite scoring multiple times during the ...

Brads’ Breakdown: the Calm Before the Storm

By Alan Brads Have you ever had a theory that you don’t say out loud because it seems glaringly obvious but no one else seems to have thought of it? It makes you wonder if you’re a genius, going insane, or both. Well here’s mine: I think it’s possible that the number one reason the NFL is overwhelmingly more popular than college football is not marketing, or parity, or format or even quality of play, it’s that Sunday comes after Saturday. By the end of Saturday I love ...

Photo Gallery: Cedarville Draws Findlay at Home in Conference Opener

The Cedarville men’s soccer team played the Findlay Oilers, and dueled them to a scoreless draw in their conference opener, moving their record to 3-1-1 on the year. Despite facing fifteen shots, goalkeeper Jabari Gray earned his fourth clean sheet of the year, and has so far effectively filled the shoes of former standout goalkeeper Jared Zacharias. Findlay had heavy control of possession, but the Yellow Jacket defense fended them off for 90 minutes to escape with a draw. Gabe ...

The Cedarville women’s soccer team won their conference opener 2-0 against Findlay on Wednesday night. Maddie McConnell took the lead for the Lady Jackets off an assist from Megan McClish, and just moments into the 2nd half senior Maya Ryder earned an insurance goal. Brooke Ackley held firm in the goal and recorded her third clean sheet of the young season. Cedarville has spent time in the national rankings this season, and will seek to work their way back into the rankings ...

Brads’ Breakdown: Pac-12 Supremacy and Southeast Showdowns

By Alan Brads I hate spiders.  People say they support healthy ecosystems and help eliminate pests, I say who cares? They’re gross, I hate them and I’m sticking to that. But when I recently saw a spider web in my apartment bathroom I chuckled because it, like most things, reminded me of football. The beauty of the college football playoff system is that the 14-week schedule is now a tangled web. A week 1 game on a Sunday night tugs at the strands connecting 20 other teams’ ...

CU men’s basketball team experiences biblical history in the Holy Land

By: Esther Fultz Most students come to Cedarville with at least a basic knowledge of the Old Testament. We know the stories of David, Samuel, and Solomon like the back of our hand – sometimes so well it’s easy to forget that these are real events that happened in real places. Physically traveling to these real places can provide a new perspective for believers and help them grasp the truth of the events that occurred there. This summer, Cedarville’s men’s basketball team traveled ...

Brads’ Breakdown: zooming into college football’s opening weekend

By: Alan Brads On Tuesday morning, I stepped outside and was met by the crispest cool breeze that southwest Ohio has felt this year. I smiled, not because the breeze felt good, or the air smelled fresh, but because I knew what that feeling perennially means in my life. College football is back. No more conference realignment chatter, NIL debates or transfer portal mayhem, just 14 straight glorious weeks of football for our viewing pleasure. Yes, I know what all you USC and Notre ...

Mistakes loom large in Yellow Jackets loss, drop three straight sets in 3-1 defeat

By: Julia Swain  The once tightly packed bleachers of just over 1100 fans quickly dissipated as the 3-1 Cedarville loss to the visiting Braves came to a close. Despite a relentless effort and high energy from fans and players alike, the Yellow Jackets were unable to string much of anything together and dropped the final three sets to ultimately lose the match.  Head coach Greg Smith recognized one area in particular that he felt his team needed to work on.  “The biggest ...

Richter’s building job this season about more than wins and losses

By Jonathan Snyder The true effectiveness of a coach cannot be measured by simply looking at a box score or a win-loss record. You must look at how he unites a team, bringing different personalities together for one common goal. You need to observe how he responds to the hard times, how he carries himself under pressure. The steps a coach takes toward preparing for game day alongside the temperament shown by him throughout need to be examined if he is to be revered. A team out of ...
