Column: The Rise of Cedarville Rugby
In November 2009, Andrew Held gathered a group of his friends and headed for the old intramural field to play his sport of choice – rugby. The field is small, located between Apple and Williams Hall. There were just a few guys present who knew little about the sport.
Every Friday this group of guys would head out to the same field and play for two hours. Some weeks, four guys would come and other weeks upward of 10. They were completely irrelevant to most of Cedarville’s campus.

Women’s Cross-Country Competes At First Home of the Season

The Lady Jackets ran in their first home meet on Saturday in the 23rd Annual Friendship Invitational. They placed seventh out of 11 schools, running in less than ideal conditions and with several of their runners still injured and unable to compete. The Lady Jackets tallied 153 points while the University of Dayton won the meet with 16 points and the runner up, Tiffin, earned 94.

Cedarville Men’s Cross-Country Dominates Friendship Invitational
The Cedarville men dominated the field on Saturday in the 23rd Annual Friendship Invitational. They won the meet for the fourth year in a row (eighth time in the history of the meet) with 19 points, 60 points ahead of Cumberlands (Ky.), who finished with 79 points. Dayton took third as a team with 84 points.

Accident Changes Runner’s Perspective
On March 29, a Cedarville track runnerran 29:52 for 10 kilometers, meeting the qualifying standard for the NCAA Division II National Championships for track and breaking the previous school record of 30:01 held by 2003 graduate Sergio Reyes.
On March 30, that same runner, Matt Brooker, was rear-ended as he drove home from a track meet at Cedarville, leaving him with a broken scapula, a serious concussion and an uncertainty of whether he would beable to race at the national meet in May.

Wittenberg Rugby Defeats Cedarville in Close Contest
The Cedarville University rugby team lost their first match of the season to Wittenberg University on Sept. 14. They battled for 80 minutes, with Wittenberg coming out on top, 24-12. Wittenberg scored early and left Cedarville in a deficit that they could not overcome.

Reese Leads Cedarville to Second Place Finish
Jordan Reese, a freshman from Cedarville, didn’t waste any time making his presence felt for the Yellow Jackets golf team. Reese shot a 2-under 70 on the final day of the tournament. His score helped the Yellow Jackets finish second at their home tournament held in Beavercreek Sept. 9 and 10.
Senior Jacob Nafziger finished tied for third place. Nafziger was impressed with his team’s performance and thought they had a great outing.

The Yellow Jacket men's soccer team defeated Malone University 4-0 in the second outing of the 2013 season on Saturday, Sept.7.
Cedarville was in control and dominated possession throughout the game. They scored quickly when Timmy Waller, a senior forward for the Yellow Jackets, put the ball in the net just 11 minutes in. The scoring slowed down until the second half when Malone helped out Cedarville by kicking it into their own net.

Cedarville Men’s Soccer Team Opens Season With Draw
Cedarville men’s soccer team opened their 2013 season with a draw against the University of Southern Indiana the evening of Sept. 5.
The Yellow Jackets outshot Southern Indiana and maintained better possession of the ball for the duration of the game. However, both Cedarville and Southern Indiana were unable to put the ball in the goal throughout the 110 minutes of play, leaving the scoreboard blank.
